In this area the first clues of settlement date back tot he greeks and phoenicians. There have been remains found from the 2nd Century b.c. Afterwards came the arabs, portuguese and finally the moroccans occupied this city with a small gap of time that the Spanish Crown ruled. After an era in which the phoenicians and greeks ruled this area, the arabs began settling in Asilah, Morocco in the year 712 a.d. turning into an important importing and exporting port, and luring fishermen into coming to their beautiful beaches and deserts to literature figures, artists, philosiphers, and many more...In this era the name of Asilah was given to this city. Centuries later, in the 15th to be exact the portuguese conquered this land and the city was taken by them and turned into a natural exit to the sea and sahara gold. Portugal was the first European country to settle in these lands, but the ambitiion and interest of Sebastian I of Portugal with taking over this land concretely Morocco causes him to lose it all in favor of the Moroccans.

Afterwards the spaniards moved into this are until the 20th cenutyr when Mulay Ismail reconquered this land for the Moroccan Crown.
